Torbreck

A constant high score! Australia's best maker, Tolbreck

Torbreck, Australia's best maker, attracts attention from various fields with its high Parker Point immovable score. Founded in 1994 by founder David Powell . Founded in 1992 , David Powell, who was working in Rockford at the time, found an old vineyard growing in dryland farming and began to take care of it. We successfully revived an old tree that was almost dead when we found it, and succeeded in harvesting the best fruit from the old, dilapidated Shiraz tree.

Inspired by the wines of the Rhone in southern France, Torbreck is a world-class winery that produces the best wines from Rhone varieties such as Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre in the Barossa Valley, where some of the world's oldest vines grow. Some of Torbreck's vines are over 150 years old, making them among the oldest in the world. These grapes survived the phylloxera epidemic and the acreage reduction policy of the early 1980s . Old vines have surprisingly low yields, and young vineyards keep yields as low as possible, so every wine has a very deep color and a rich, concentrated and complex taste.

Since 2008 , Torbreck has built a new standard for Torbreck by renovating the brewery to the latest equipment under new owner Pete Knight and consistently managing the production line until bottling. The owner, Pete, has a deep knowledge of both American and Australian wines, and is motivated to maintain the quality of the past and create wines that surpass Torbreck. In 2014 , the single vineyard The Laird earned 100 parker points and continues to make progress. From the 2017 vintage, we welcome brewer Ian Hongel, who has a deep knowledge of Barossa soil and grapes, as a new brewer. Ian was born in a grape farmer who has been supplying high quality Shiraz to Torbreck for many years. Chairman of the Australian wine competition and a standing judge at the National Wine Circuit.

2020 Vintage Information ■ This year, strong winds during the flowering period at the beginning of the growing season reduced the number of berries and bunches in many fields. The winter and spring were dry and dry, followed by very hot and dry weather from December to January . 2020 proved to be a difficult year for growers and vintners alike, with much lower yields than expected, but the old vines, with their deep roots, were able to thrive under these conditions. We were able to produce a fine wine with depth and concentration due to the low yield, even though it was a small amount. Semillon and Viognier white wines of this year are exceptional, with delicate and elegant flavors and aromas. The 2020 vintage produced high-quality wines with low yields but overall high quality, full of local character with deep colors and smooth textures.

2021 VINTAGE INFORMATION ■ 2021 saw record high harvests and perfect weather during the growing season. Summer has been the coolest in a decade and December 2020 was the third wettest month on record. Overall, the heat wave was relatively unaffected and the timely rains allowed for an ideal ripening period and yielded high quality grapes.
